DAY 6 - Bristol to Hereford

A little slow this morning after our later than usual night capped off with a fine Highland malt.

Jim & Rosemarie spoil us with porridge and full English and we set off in dry weather for the Avonmouth.  One of the biggest challenges on the trip so far is finding the time and access to an internet connection to update the blog. We have again been fortunate with wifi connection but will always be a few days behind.   I plan to try out the mounted tripod again on my handebars and take some video of us crossing the Severn Bridge. We will soon be in Wales.

Friday 13th May. Sunny. Jim took us on his bike through Blaize Woods towards Avonmouth. We cycled alongside the Severn and then across the old Severn Bridge – an amazing experience.  It was so windy in the middle that it was hard to go forward.  The bridge shook whenever several lorries went by.

Out of Chepstow we stopped at Gabbys mobile snack bar, bang opposite the main entrance to Chepstow Racecourse. The next race was at 2pm on Tuesday 24th May. I was all for waiting but John said he had a wedding to go to on 4th June and meanwhile he had to get to the north of Scotland.  So we settled for tea and hot dogs and Gabby gave us Kit Kats gratis.

On up the lovely Wye Valley past the beautiful ruin of Tintern Abbey, into Monmouth.  Excellent lunch at the Gate House overlooking the old bridge over the Wye.

The bike shop advised John needed a new rear wheel so we diverted to Hereford where he they had one of the right size.

We stayed at the Three Counties Hotel where John had all the necessary technical services that he seems to require.
